Simonton WIndow Repair

I ordered the 26-378 pivot bar and 15-199 pivot shoe for my Simonton double hung tilt window from your web site - nice site! The spring on one side of the window is not connected to the pivot shoe. I can feel the spring protruding out of the housing but I cannot get it out of the housing. It seems to have tension. I do not know how to remove the pivot shoe and spring assembly from the window track. See photo. How do I remove the old pivot shoe and how do I install the spring to the new pivot shoe? The pivot shoe on the other side of the window has a 2-3" connecting "tape" from the pivot to the spring. This is either missing or has gone into the spring housing. Do I need a special tool to adjust the spring tension? What else do I need to purchase? Thanks.
Use submitted photo of their Simonton window balance system.

The metal cam in the pivot shoe looks like it's broken and has sprung up into the spring housing.

I'd try removing the screw that holds the plastic housing, then you could remove the springs.

As far as pivot shoe removal, here is a video that will help explain the pivot shoe removal process.
