I need a shorter window balance than 24 9 CX CMC 7

Question

Hi, I'm attaching a couple of pics. I think the series 395 is the model I need. What I'm trying to do is use a shorter balancer so I can remove an interference between the balancer and a security alarm magnet. The balancer is 26" long and the window is about 30#. The part number is 24 9 CX CMC 7. If I could use a 24" balancer it would probably remedy the situation. You see a pitfall with that?

I don't believe you have the Series 395 channel balance, since your bottom attachment has wings. Our Series 385 is likely a better match.

A shorter balance would also not work as well as you might think. This would mean that the balance has less travel in the track. In other words, you wouldn't be able to close your window. You would have to lower the 16-002 take out clip and the installation hole for the balance hook. The consequence of this fix is that the sash won't go up as far as it does now.

Also keep in mind your balance length should be 25", not 26". Make sure to only measure the metal channel.
