Window Coil Balance (I think)

Home Owner from Missouri
Thank you for your help. The coil balances on both sides of my window broke today, or at least I realized that they were broken today. I have included the information that is on the top of the window, in case it helps at all. The three metal coils are hard to read, but I think one says #3.0 35" and #7 35". It has some numbers starting with: PA75232(then maybe 200 or 280; there is a rectangle punched out of it on those numbers where the three coils connect). The middle coil has some numbers that I cannot read and #4.0 35, but I am not able to decipher anything else. If you can provide any guidance, I will really appreciate it!

Hello!

The pivot shoe you have here appears to be the 15-199. This is used with the 1/2" S160 and 3/8" S165 coil springs. From the looks of your cover, the 15-205, I suspect the coil spring band is 3/8" wide but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you weigh the window sash on a scale and tell us the precise weight? We can calculate what spring weights you'll need from there.

Thank you! The window sash weighs 18.8 lbs. You guessed correctly: the spring coil is 3/8 inch. It looks like the pivot shoe is 1 1/2 inches wide, 3/8 inches deep, and 1 3/8 inches tall, if that matters. I appreciate your help!

You can use three S165-3 3-pound springs on both sides of the window. This will total 18 pounds of overall support which should be fine so long as the spring weights are within a pound of the sash weight.

Your dimensions are off from the 15-199 though. To get the most accurate measurement, you'd want to remove the old pivot shoe from the window track. The video below will show you how to do so using the cut out method.

Sorry, I think I read my notes incorrectly. Will these help?

Unfortunately, we are not able to make out exact dimensions from photos but the 1-1/4" width and 17/32" depth would be the key measurements. As long as they match your part, you should be good to go.
