Thanks for reaching out to us. This reminds me of the Series 770 but your balance appears to use the 62-105 hook to connect to the pivot shoe which means it must be custom order. We'll just need more information to get the ball rolling.

  • Can you confirm the stamp on the metal channel as well as the weight of the window sash?
  • How does the balance install at the top of the window?
  • How many balances are you looking to order?

If you need the pivot shoe, take a look at the specifications of the 15-208 and see if they match what you're searching for.

Can be I just use the old hooks and tie a knot? It looks like thats all that's been done before.

Yes, you could do that but doing so is a little tricky. You will need a bench vice to securely clamp onto the cord to make sure it doesn't snap back into the pulley while you swap the clips out. These cords are under a lot of tension and if it gets away from you then it could potentially ruin the balance; if you aren't careful, it can also take out an eye. If you proceed with this, make sure to wear safety goggles and gloves, just to be safe.

Based on these markings, I've ordered option 21C. Correct?

Is the metal channel 21" or 22" long? Your initial post said the housing was 22". If the metal channel is 22" long, the 22C stamp option may be what you need. If the metal channel is 21" long, the 21C stamp option may be what you need. You can weigh the window sash on a scale to confirm if the weight falls within the respective stamp options.

A pair of S770-22 balances with the 22C stamp will support a sash weighing 16 to 21 pounds.

A pair of S770-21 balances with the 21C stamp will support a sash weighing 14 to 18 pounds.

I thought I measured 22" , but the stamp clearly says 21C. Which takes precedence? Does the 21C marking not mean anything? I'm 40 miles away from the job, so I'm not trying to be difficult...just don't want to drive back if the stamp  is the final say.

That's the tough part. In some cases, the length of the metal channel is 1" more than the first two numbers. However, there are other cases where the first two numbers indicate the actual length of the metal channel. The bad news is that we can't say which is the case for you. The only way to know for sure is to measure the metal channel itself. So if you're confident you measured the metal channel as 22", you may need the 22C stamp option.

Ok. I verified its 22". Sash weighs 14.7 pounds. Unfortunately I've already received the 21" balances. Can I return them?

Also, they just sit on top of a screw/stud and are held in by a plastic cover.

Yes, you can initiate your return by going to this page here

Our Series 770 is designed to install at the top of the window track, using the 19-036 mounting screw-way, so you'll just have to install it the way the old balance was originally installed.

Since the sash weighs 14.7 pounds, see the S770-22 with the 22B stamp option. A pair of balances with this stamp will support a sash weighing 10 to 16 pounds.
