Window coil

Home Owner from Philadelphia, PA
Hello,
I have a bathroom window that won't stay up anymore. It looks like the coil is broken. I don't know what brand of window it is (it came with the house). I was hoping you'd be able to tell by looking at the pictures.

One of the pivot pins is also broken. I don't know if you sell them.

I'm not a professional handy person, but I am a homeowner who is handy.

Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. Hopefully you have parts that will work for me. Thanks.

Hello,

Unfortunately, we do not carry an exact replacement for your coil balance pivot shoe but our 17/32" thick 15-199 Pivot Shoe should work well as a replacement. You'll need to compare the dimensions below to yours to confirm that this would be a good fit for your window.

This pivot shoe is compatible with either the (1/2") Series 160 or the (3/8") Series 165 coil balance springs. To determine which series you have, you'll need to confirm the width of your coils. Then you'll choose the strength options that correspond with your original coils stamps.

As for the damaged pivot bars, we offer the 26-378 commonly used with the 15-199 pivot shoe.

With that being said, your photos resemble the 26-449 pivot bar. The determining factor would be how the dimensions below compare to yours, paying closet attention to the backset of the installation holes compares to the holes in your sash frame. Thanks for posting!

Wow, this is great! I wish buying things was always like this with great advice just based on photos. I'll give that pivot shoe a try and I'll order both pivot pins to see which one works better. The only stamp I found on the coil was the number 7, which I take to mean it's rated for 7 pounds. You only have 6.5 and 7.5, but I'll order the 7.5 cuz my sash weighs about 15 lbs.

Thank you very much! I'll let you know hoe it works out.

We're happy to help and appreciate your business. I also agree that one 7.5 coil spring on each side would support a 15-pound sash. Just let us know if you need anything else.

This was great! What if all companies made it this easy to identify the parts you need? The pivot shoe you recommended worked great and one of the pivot bars (26-449) fit my window just like the original. The only hard part was cutting access into the vinyl tracks to remove the old parts and install the new ones. When I did the first side, I didn't cut a big enough cutout but still wrangled everything into place. When I went to the other side, I made the cut ever so slightly bigger and it worked great. Thank you so much!

That's great news! I'm so happy everything worked out.

Thanks again for the business, and please don't hesitate to reach out for any future window projects.
