My Double hung Window is really Tough to open, it makes a lot of noises as if they are going to come out.
One of the window contractors told me that it might be need to be replaced.
How do i check if its just the "Spring Balance" that needs its tension adjusted ?
Thanks In Advance
AJ

Hey, AJ. It sounds like your balances are well past being adjusted. How old are they, do you know?
Either way, it sounds like there is too much tension. You could try relieving it before you replace the balances, just in case. Check out our 75-006 or 75-005, depending on whether your window is tilt or non-tilt. Also check out our guides on the best method of adjusting them.

Thanks Tom for the quick response,
its around 16 yrs old, dont think it was ever replaced since the house was built, Will try the lubricating it and adjusting the tension before i go ahead and replace the Balance
thanks

I did purchase the Spring balance charging tool.
it seems that the pivot shoe is very tight,
After i disconnectd fromthe balance it does not freely move in the channel
What do i do ?
Thanks

Is the sash removed from the window when you try to adjust the pivot shoe? If so, it may simply be locked in place when you took the sash out. What position is the cam in?

Hi,
The Cam is in the vertical position, is that a locked position ?
I would assume that when the window is in it and working it would be in a hozontal position.
Thanks
Ajit

That's correct! If you need to adjust it with the sash out, you can always use a flat head screwdriver to turn the cam, then turn it back when you're ready to put the sash back in.
