Hi, I have double windows side by side that crank open and glide out like french doors. The window handle box? and handles need to be replaced. I am not sure how to remove and replace the part attached to the window. It is made of hard plastic shell that has cracked. Thanks for any help and information you can provide. I know that you have videos. What is the part called?

Thank you for your attention. I appreciate any advice.

Best wishes,

Jeanne

Hi Jeanne,

Thanks for writing in! It appears that the entire worm gear has been completely stripped from the operator. This is the part on the end of the crank with the spirals on it. It's job is to interact with the gears inside the operator to help the crank handle turn. Unfortunately, this is not something that is easily repairable without the proper machinery. With that said, you will need to replace the entire crank operator.

I am confident that we can supply you with the replacement you need, but I'll need to see photo of the entire operator to make the best possible recommendation. I am looking to see a photo the arm(s) and how to connect to the bottom of the swinging sash (window).

Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have in the meantime.

HI, Thanks for your quick response. I am not sure exactly what you are looking for. I don't know how to remove the operator from the bottom of window. Where do you need pictures of? I have attached these pics. The window glides open from the bottom and the top.

Thanks.

Hi Jeannie,

The window handle box you are referring to is what I am referring to as the casement window operator. The pieces that connect to the bottom of the window are the arms of that operator. I was requesting to see the entire operator so that I can make an accurate recommendation.

The parts at the top of the window that help it to open and close are the hinges. They are separate from the operators.

Based on what I can see here, it appears that you may have an older style GU Operator. With that said, your existing operator has been discontinued but we do have a replacement solution that should work for you.

You'll need to purchase the 39-316 Truth Dyad Operator along with the 39-114L Crank Handle. You may also need to replace the bracket on the bottom of the swinging window, which would be part 39-514. The opposite handed version for the operator is part 39-315 and the opposite handed bracket is part 39-513.

Take a look at the video below that describes the process for replacing the operator you have. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
