Hello,

My window balance shoe coil is broken.

Which coil should I buy to replace?

BTW, window weight is 9.5 lb.

Hello,

Your pivot shoe resembles the 17/32" thick 15-199. This shoe uses either the (1/2") S160 or (3/8") S165 coil springs. I'd recommend double-checking the weight of your sash since one #6.5 coil spring on each side would support a 13-pound sash. The spring is 1/2 inch wide, so it will be S160. I measured the weight, and it is approximately 9 to 9.5 pounds, including the glass. We have other windows that are larger than this one, and I suspect the previous installer may have used the same spring for all the windows, which could explain why it has a #6.5 coil.

In this case, is it better to stick with the #6.5 coil, or should I switch to either #4.5 or #5.5?

Also, I have covers. Do I need to buy a new cover, or can I reuse the old one? I've attached a photo of the current cover.

If you believe that the coils may have been replaced with the incorrect strength options, I'd recommend using one S160-04 coil on each side based on your sash weight. It would be a good idea to confirm the exact sash weight to ensure that the replacement coils will work. As long as your original covers are in good shape, you should be able to reuse them.
