replacing sash balance 3405 RB (BSI)

Quick Learner from Jacksonville FL
Hi, I have a replacement part # 3440 BSIEP I got from a neighbor. I need 6 more however installation of the balance is not on your video. The balance is 35" long and when installed in the Kinco window frame with the clip in the frame at the bottom of the balance, the top of the balance is against the top of the window frame. I have both of the balances in the frame, what do I do next with the sash? Thanks so much for your help. Hal

Thanks for posting, Hal! In order to identify what balances you have, I will first have to have a closer look at the nylon attachments at either end of the balance. Please remove the balance from the window and take a few pictures of these nylon attachments. Then upload them here for me to see. Thank you!

Thanks for getting back to us. These pictures help out a lot! I just need a bit more information. Before I can offer an applicable replacement for this channel balance, I just need to know a bit more information about the bottom attachment. Please take a look at our 15-004 and 15-005 channel balance shoes, and note their depths. As you can see, they are 1-3/32" deep and 1" deep, respectively. Which one more closely matches your own bottom attachment?

Also, I see that your channel is marked "3405." Is this the same window that had a channel balance marked "3440?"

Like 15-005. Yes, the 3405 and 3440 are the same.
Live in a condo complex and they're failing thru the community. When we get a solution, I'll send the info to management and let my neighbors know of the solution.

Right now, I need to know how to install the sash so I can close my window and turn the AC on.

Thanks so much.

Thank you. In that case, I'd recommend the S380-35 channel balance. Does that look about right? I'd also recommend the 3440 option, which can carry a window sash weight range of 23 through 30 pounds. Does your sash's weight fall within that range?

Please keep in mind that the weight range information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.

Sounds good! Let us know how it works out.

Hi, the S380-35 looks like the one. The sash weighs between 23 and 30 lbs so the 3440 option looks right. There is friction in the window jamb. I'll order 2 of these and make sure they work.

In the meantime, it's obvious that my take out clips are covered by the balance assembly rendering them useless to me. I'll attempt to install the sash "over top of the bottom attachment" as in the video and hopefully can move the installed sash up enough to release the clip and slide the sash down to the closed position.
