Product Description

This charging tool is used to torque the appropriate amount of operating tension on a spiral balance for tilt windows. This tool has a double-hook end that grips the end of the spiral balance rod. Simply crank the charging tool to increase or decrease the opening length of the spiral balance. This tool is also useful for connecting the spiral rod to the pivot shoe.

Can you explain what is meant by "charging" a spiral balance? And, do I really need to purchase a special tool to do it or can I make do with something else?
