Identify part number please

Handy Person from Kingsland, GA

I would like to order a replacement part and need help identifying the part number. There are two attachments. One shows the window label showing the window part number. The second photo shows the part I am trying to identify and order. I think it might be called a balance spring. It provides resistance to the window so it maintains its position when open. The one I need is for the left side of the window when viewed from the inside looking out.

Thank you for your help

Hi there Rick.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We're happy to look into this. Can you show us a photo of the pivot shoe? It appears to be at the bottom of the window looking at your first photo. You would just have to remove the window sash to get a good look at it.

Here are 4 photos. Hopefully you can identify the parts we need. The pastic part at the bottom of the track, you called it a pivot shoe is jammed and very difficult to remove.  The upper plastic part has a broken spring that you can see in each photo of the left side of the window frame. Thank you for your help identifying the part or parts we need and how to place an order.  Installation instructions would also be helpful. Thanks for the additional photos, Rick. Our 15-199 looks like a good match. This is designed to use the 1/2" Series 160 and 3/8" Series 165 coil springs. You'll have to measure the width of the spring's band to confirm which Series is best for your window. There should also be a stamp on the spring that indicates the weight. For a new double coil support, see the 15-150D or 15-204 depending on the width of your old springs.

As for your pivot shoe being jammed, it sounds like the pivot shoe may be in the locked position. You'll need to use a slotted screwdriver to rotate the cam and raise the shoe to remove it as shown in the video below around the 0:37 mark. If the issue persists, please let us know.

Hi Emile, The spring, which is broken, is 1/2" in width. I also broke the 15-150D trying to remove it. So I need a 15-150D and a 160 spring but I find no number on the spring. If you can't identify the spring weight by the window part number that was sent earlier I would assume a safe choice would be the 3.5 lb spring.

I also need a 15-199 pivot shoe. I've got 2 questions. Does the spring come attached to the pivot shoe? I don't see how it attaches.

If sold separately can you tell me how to do it. Also, in looking at the photo of the 15-150D I don't see a cover. How is the sprimg held in place?

So, to summarize- I want to order one each of the 15-150D, a 3.5 lb 160 spring and a 15-199 pivot shoe. Do I place the order with you? Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. Rick

We do not recommend assuming the spring weight, as choosing the wrong weight may make the window harder to open. Since there isn't a number on the spring, you would have to weigh the window sash and divide the weight by the total number of springs used in the window. You're also welcome to get back to us with the sash weight and we can calculate what you'll need from there.

The S160 springs are sold separately. You will notice two holes at the top of the 15-199 pivot shoe. This hole is bisected by a slot that the tip of the S160 spring fits into flat ways, then twists in the round hole to lock in place. As for the cover, when the springs are in the support, the exposed side goes against the jamb which holds the support and spring in place. I hope this helps.

All orders can be placed on our website at your convenience.

The window sash was 18lb. There is a spring on the right side and I need a spring for the left side. So I should order a 9lb spring?

Yes, if you want to go with one spring per side, you can use the S160-09 9-pound spring. You would also need the 15-150S single coil support instead.
