Window coil spring broke

Quick Learner
The only markings I can see besides CHINA is a faint 409 on the coil.  This is the bottom sash of a vinyl simonton window.  I have many of these similarly broken.
You helped me previously on another window of a different type.

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to us. We don't sell the Simonton setup shown here but the 15-259 pivot shoe and S159 coil balances can replace it. The video below will go over the replacement process. You will also need the 26-083 pivot bar to replace your old ones. For a compatible double coil support, see the 15-256

Since the sash is 32 pounds, you can use one S159-05 5.5-pound spring and one S159-10 10.5-pound spring on both sides of the window. 16 pounds of support on each side of the window will total 32 pounds of overall support.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks.  In regards to the springs, can I just as easily use two 8 pound springs, instead of one 10 and one 5 pounder?   Also, does the spring that is mounted higher need to be 1-2 inches longer?

Also, if only the shoe needs replaced, could I use product 15-192 "certainteed pivot shoe"?

The Series 159 doesn't have an 8-pound option. There's an 8.5-pound spring but two of these on each side would total 34 pounds of overall support which is too strong for the window. If you're using the Series 159 coil springs, the top spring doesn't need to be 1-2" longer.

The 15-259 is our preferred and go-to option. However, the 15-192 is another option. Note that you may need to reuse the old shoe's cam with the new shoe, and the aligners on the front of the 15-192 may need to be shaved down to fit into the window track. Just note that altered items cannot be returned for a refund.
