coil balance depth

Question

Hi, I ordered a set of '10 lb Series 140 Quick-Tilt, SingleS140-10' and installed them. My window is struggling to open and it sort of tilts from side to side on the way up and down. Could it be because of the depth of the coil? My old ones are 3/4" and marked 10J, the new ones are about 1/2". Double glazed vinyl windows from 2007, frame 24" x 32". AI estimated 20lbs.

Thanks for reaching out to us! The coil assembly you have appears to be an older, discontinued Simonton balance. The Series 140 Quick-Tilt Balances are not interchangeable with it.

To replace what you have, we suggest using the 15-259 Coil Balance Pivot Shoe. The existing pivot bar won't be compatible with it, so you'll also need the 26-083.

The coil spring used with this shoe is the Series 159. To determine if the 10lb coil is the correct one for the window, you'll need to physically weigh the sash. If it does weight 20lbs, you can use the S159-10 to complete the assemblies. The compatible cover is the 15-255 Coil Single Support.

Unfortunately, the estimate given does not account for the weight of the framing material or the glass pane.
