CertainTeed Replacement Parts

Handy Person from Maryland
Hello,
I'm trying to find out exactly what parts to order to replace the complete assembly on both sides of the window. I've attached pictures of the pivot shoe, the coil housings (M8637MXX), and the coils. One coil has "SA 406 500" imprinted on it and the other has "LA 406 500".

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to us. This reminds me of the 15-192 pivot shoe, though you may have to shave off the aligner bumps for it to fit into the window track.

For the springs, see the S171-406 and S170-406 6-pound coil springs. Note that the S171 coil spring is meant to be the top coil.

I also want to mention that the coil supports are discontinued and no longer available, so you must reuse them.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi Emily,
Thank you for the information. Do you know if there are any aftermarket or used coil supports anywhere? Mine are 23 years old and are very brittle. When I tried to remove the one to send you the pictures it crumbled into pieces.

I'm afraid we don't. If the old supports can't be used, our only other option would be to replace the whole setup with the 15-259 pivot shoe and Series 159 coil springs. You would also need the 26-083 pivot bar and 15-255 or 15-256 coil supports. The video below goes over the replacement process. Take a look and see what you think.

If you're interested in this route, feel free to get back to us with the exact sash weight and we can calculate the coil weights.

Thank you very much for bringing this alternative to my attention! I'm definitely willing to try going that route. I'm out of town right now so as soon as I get an opportunity to weigh the sash I'll pass the weight along to you. Thanks again!

Hi Emily! My home scale says the sash is 18.4 lbs.

In that case, I'd suggest using two S159-04 coils on each side. Just let us know if you need anything else.

Thank you for replying so quickly, Emily! Can you please confirm that these are all of the parts I need for a complete replacement? I just want to make sure I have a good list.
2 ~ 15-259 pivot shoes, 4 ~ S159-04 coils, 2~ 15-256 coil supports, and 2 ~ 26-083 pivot bars

Hi Emily! I just wanted to let you know that the parts you recommended worked great! You saved me a lot of money, time, and trouble. I had to modify the pivot bars slightly and move each of them inboard about a 1/2" but other than that everything went smoothly. I have another window I'm planning to work on soon so I'll be ordering more parts in the not too distant future. Thanks again and have a great day!
