Product Description

This is a Series 500 spiral balance, a popular balance that is used in both wood and aluminum non-tilt windows. It moderates the operation of your window sash to allow the window to stay open when raised.

This balance has a 16" long metal tube with an internal rod that measures 16-1/2" in length.
The strength you need should be indicated as a color tip at the end of your old metal tube. If you do not see a color tip weigh your sash on a scale and refer to the chart below.
The tube measures 9/16" in diameter but it is considered 5/8" in the trade and houses an internal spiral rod with cross-piece.
Can work for either the left or right side of the window interchangeably.
Spiral window balances come fully lubricated and ready to be charged.

*This information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.

Good Idea!

For best results, replace window balances in pairs (though sold individually). An old balance will overwork a new one, causing faster wear and uneven operation. Paired replacement ensures optimal, lasting performance.

Looking for spring balance for our single-sash windows

We are located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and are looking for spring balances for wooden single-sash windows (non-tilting) installed in 1954 when the building was constructed. We would need a minimum of three balances (preferably four) for the two windows, since there is only one balance ? i.e., ... (cont.)

Attaching 15-040 to S 500 balance

Part # 15-040 is not fitting into part # S500-16. Is there an error or do we need a new part? We have called and the gentlemen said these were correct and that he would have to talk with someone regarding this. Please let us know so that we can install the hardware.

I need a spiral balance with a 16" shaft. However the tip is white and the spiral rod hangs out about 1 3/4" to 2". It is a small window, the bottom sash is about 30" x 18" and less than 10 pounds. Balance parts

This is from a C-Alwintite window. One of the sashes is missing both balances, and I cannot tell what the hardware is to be. The frame measures 34" high inside. The sash measures 17.5" high.
