My house was built in 1999 and I can't find any information on the window manufacturer. In several cases, the part that secures the window pane to the balance has broken. The rod is 24" including the metal part sticking out, 5/8" wide. There is a dark blue piece crammed up inside. The dimensions for the shoe are ABOUT 1" x 2" x 1/2" give or take a 16th. We just bought a house that has the original Alcoa windows. The windows still look good besides they do not open very easily. We had someone look at them and he believes they need new springs put in and rebalanced. Do I just need to buy replacement balances for this?

My tilt window, 60x46 Carefree window needs replacement spiral springs and shoes. The spring is 29", black tip, 3/8". What part number do I need? The shoe is 1/2" thick x2" height x 1" wide. What part number and tool do I need?

I watched the video of how to replace the spiral balances and am anxious to get started. I am having difficulty getting the sash out of the window however. The "give it a twist" part is not working for me at all. Is there a way to get the sides to slide better to allow removal of the sash? ... (cont.)
