I need to put a longer handle on the newly installed 39-414 vent operator to clear the screen. What is the spline size?

I took of the window spring I am looking for. (View photo) The overall length is 29 inches. The problem is that the plastic tab at the very top of the device has broken on half of the 24 windows I have, preventing me from opening the window and it remaining open. This is a plastic hinge piece that fits under a casement window and links to the extender arms. There are black pins on either side that are broken off--I've put one of them next to the piece in the close up. I am trying to install this lock and need assistance. Do I have to cut the part that I've circled in my photos, if so how do I cut it ? It is too long and everything else on the door fits great.

I have what appears to be JADO narrow door lock sets on the exterior storm and interior front door to my home. The 82-400 s 82-398 appear quite similar. WE can't get the latch open on a Truth Hardware window we took pictures of the window (left side broken). The window where the latch is broken - Latch handle with cylinder pulled out.
