The plastic piece that screws into the sash spring assembly is broken. This is the weak link in the design as 5 of these pieces have broken on the house. In 2005, I had Simonton 5500 series double Hung windows installed. Attached are pictures of the shoe and the coil spring from one of the windows.The spring is attached by the hook as shown.
