Please, I am seeking assistance with completing the hardware for 6 x 24" bifold panel for 3 x 48" closet. I picked up these used doors from a yard sale and would like to install them. My window will not stay up and falls down. The tension string seems to sag and not stay taught. Do I need a new channel balance or can I cut the string to make it taught when I raise the window? I have included pictures. Thanks!

The windows are about 25 years old. The balance is a spring with a rod through it, attached to a tilt shoe with a string. The tracks are 1 1/4 x 5/8 inch.
