We are doing a project for the Minnesota Historical Society and they want to replace all of the spiral spring balencers in a 1940's +/- cabin. Folks, I have a broken spring balance. (27", dia. 5/8", no color tip) Not sure which Swisco series replacement part I need. Balance itself is old, but works. The bracket is the broken piece. How can you tell if the balancer needs cleaned/adjusted versus replaced? Several hard to raise/lower windows and all have those balancers. When I take it apart, what am I looking for? Thanks for the great site and info!
