A few of the windows in my house have issues with opening/closing. For some, they are so difficult it's like a back-breaking workout, for at least one other the balances have just given up and dropped out. Based on what I can see it looks like our single hung window with your 17-052 #63 type of bottom sash clips. The spiral balances are not connected, dropped down in the track loose. The alum window bottom sash has a hollow (three sided) (open towards the bottom) channel running along the bottom.
