Hello, Wondering how many clockwise turns I make to properly tension a 30" series 400 spiral balance, or is there some other way to know when it is properly tensioned? First time doing this repair. Thanks

I am replacing the spiral balances in some old non-tilt windows from 2002. The existing spiral balances are 3/8" diam, 30" length, with what appear to be a brown colored tip. Hi, I recently bought a townhome and a couple of windows show broken spiral sash balances. The sashes would not stay up. I was able to remove the spiral balance, but not the plastic casing where the balance goes through as the window is not removable. The metal part of the balance is 30 inches, 3/8" ... (cont.)

I have these failing channel balances, and would like to replace them, just so no one looses a finger in the window. I have GA non-tilt windows that were installed in the 1997/1998 time frame. Several balances have failed. They look like your Series 400 spiral balances; however, they have no colored tip. I searched and found your S900-30 part which closely matches the 3/8 inch tubular balances I have in Savannah GA. My balances are inside a white plastic sheath, but I don't see the availability of ones with a sheath. I have no idea as to the weight of the tilting lower sash of these single hung ... (cont.)

I am trying to replace a spiral balance for a non-tilt window. My original balance measures 30" long and 3/8" diameter. It looks like the S400 model but I dont have a plastic tip on mine. It may have broken off. Need help in finding the right color. John
