I need to replace some channel sash balances which I have identified as 28 inch series 385 [Markings on existing balances 2840]. The channel balances in my windows have a winged shoe at the top but not the bottom. How critical is it that I match this configuration? Would having a winged shoe on top and bottom give the sash more stability when opening and closing the window? One is marked 2130 and the other 2730. Thanks ... (cont.)

I've been called in after 2 others "worked" on this window. Alenco non-tilt alum slider 45 1/2 W X 29 3/8 H thermal pane w mullion enclosed. Everything I've read suggests I need a 15-004 channel balance shoe (1 & 3/32") and a 28" channel balance (my current one says BSI 2730 on it). That particular shoe has wings. The lower end plastic part is broken and the balance had the number 2740 on it and measures 28 inches from end to end of the metal part as shown in your instructions for measurements.
